    Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna signed Joint Statement between the Republic of Lithuania and the United States of America concerning Counter Nuclear Smuggling

    On September 22, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna and Under Secretary for Nuclear Security of the United States Department of Energy Jill Hruby signed a Joint Statement concerning Counter Nuclear Smuggling.

    During the meeting, both parties welcomed the completion  of the installation of the radiation detection systems in Lithuania  and also acknowledged the importance of the Lithuanian Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence which was established in March 2012 with the support of the US.  The participants agreed to continue working together in prevention of the illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive material. Ambassador V. Verba assured that Lithuania will continue close cooperation with the United States.
