On 30 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilūnas met with the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen.

The interlocutors highlighted the mutually friendly relations between Lithuania and Denmark, and discussed possibilities to further strengthen them. “We enjoy close political, economic, military and other cooperation and partnership with Denmark. We have a similar approach to many of today’s and future challenges. All of this provides the basis for working together — both bilaterally, in the Nordic-Baltic region, and on the international stage,” said Meilūnas.

In the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged experiences of Lithuania and Denmark in implementing development cooperation policy, discussed the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and irregular migration. Meilūnas also thanked Denmark for supporting Lithuania in the face of a hybrid attack orchestrated by the Belarus regime that had sent migrants across the borders into the European Union.

Mortensen accompanies the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who is visiting Vilnius on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Denmark, and the 30th anniversary of their re-establishment.

On 28 September 1921, Denmark officially recognised Lithuania. Lithuania and Denmark re-established their diplomatic relations on 24 August 1991.
