Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis meets with the U.S. Secretary of State Blinken in Riga
On 1 December in Riga, on the margins of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, thanked him for the U.S. contribution to regional security, and reminded that it was important to continue strengthening the Alliance's forces in the region in view of emerging security challenges.
The meeting focused on the security situation on NATO’s eastern flank and the amassing of troops along the borders of Ukraine that was raising concerns. The Lithuanian and American heads of diplomacy also underlined the need for the international community to continue exerting pressure on Alexander Lukashenko's regime and to prevent the orchestrated instrumentalisation of irregular migrants.
Landsbergis welcomed the outcomes of the first bilateral meeting of the Lithuania-U.S. strategic dialogue on the Indo-Pacific region, which took place on 23 November. In addition, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the U.S. for its strong support of Lithuania’s efforts to develop relations and cooperation with partners in the region, as well as to establish secure supply chains. The interlocutors also discussed opportunities for further development of economic cooperation between the U.S. and Lithuania.
